Heroes Are Here opened May 1, 1986 and will celebrate it's 21st anniversary on Free Comic Book Day, May 5, 2007.  Heroes was the the brain child of the present owner and manager Eddie Sutton.  Eddie and his mother Pat opened the doors at South Center street in downtown Goldsboro, offering comic books and used paper backs.  Eddie was a sophomore at Eastern Wayne High School and worked the store afternoons and weekends.  Pat and her friend Nellie took care of the store until Eddie was available.  About this time the baseball card craze came into being and Heroes along with most every store around started carrying sports cards.  The store grew by leaps and bounds for the first 2 years and it became apparent that comics and cards were going to be the main sources of revenue for the store.  Eddie and Pat also decided that a location nearer Seymour Johnson Air Force Base would be beneficial and the move was made April 1, 1988 and the store is located at the 208 S. Berkeley Blvd. location today.  When the move was made it was decided to do away with paper backs altogether.  The store was about 70-30 comic books for the next 5 years and then it was decide to go 100% comics and comic accessories . (Sounds Like Hank Hill)  For the past 19 years the store has continued to grow and offers one of the largest and best kept selections of back issues to be found anywhere.  By having so many military customers that have enjoyed the service offered at Heroes, comics are shipped world wide on a weekly basis.  Eddie is now a professor at Wayne Community College and is in the store afternoons and weekends.
